Growing in bogs around the world, sundews (Drosera) bear leaves covered with tiny hairs tipped with glistening drops of sticky mucilage that lure insects. Once an insect is trapped, the hairs slowly bend toward it, pressing it against the leaf surface, where digestive enzymes are then secreted. The easiest to grow are tropical and subtropical sundews – a sunny windowsill and a tray of water are enough to cultivate most of them. On our website, we have divided sundews into types: tropical & subtropical, temperate, and Australian sundews: from the Queensland group (rainforest sundews), the petiolaris complex group, pygmy sundews, as well as tuberous sundews. Before purchasing, it is worth checking the cultivation requirements of a given group of sundews – information is available in the ‘cultivation’ section.
